With Spring fully here I am starting a bunch of projects and taking time to hike in the wildflowers. A number of my projects are in the planning phase, but I thought I would talk a little about how that works with me.
While still working on my Grand Teton painting, I had this in mind as my next large-scale painting. I am going to paint it the same size as Teton (36”x48”) and also on birch as I really like how the paint lays down. I need to break this down into 1 ft squares to jot down large forms to start. The colors will be amped up a bit with warmer hues to emphasize the desert rocks and I will add more color to the sunset. It was a really beautiful night up on the mesa, so I will adjust the colors to my memory over the photo.
I also have a quilt project started as I found a Tula Pink collection of fabric prints I really wanted to work with. I bought a pack of the 10inch squares (20 designs, 2 each except for 3 each of 2 , 42 squares in all) to make a quilt from. I really just wanted the fabrics to be the focus so I am leaving them square and the teal I have laying underneath will be the sashing between squares. I bought a batik fabric for the border and then a purple for the binding. Tula Pink makes some quilt back material so the scale is larger and the fabric cut is big enough not to have to piece together so I bought that in green with pink peonies. I plan to make a throw pillow and 2 shams to make it all a set, so I bought the 5inch charm pack of the same prints (42 squares also). This picture is my having laid out all the 10in squares to figure out placement before I start cutting or sewing anything.
…And a few photos from a recent wildflower hike!
I’ll finish with a hint that these photos may also be inspiration for some other work I have going !
