We got a new sewing machine that works great (it’s a Brother) and I had to try it out! I first made a pair of pillow covers to go in Cory’s office, then thought I would use up the rest of the scraps leftover from my quilt top! What better than to make a matching throw pillow cover and use them up? I ended up using some of the backing material across the top and bottom as I used the entirety of what was left from the front. I did hand quilt to have it match the blanket, but used the machine for everything else.
I pieced leftover batting from my quilt and zigzagged it together to use in future projects like this. It worked well and keeps waste to a minimum! The back of the pillow was the material that was left from the quilt back. It was all strips cut from around the edge after being quilted, so I pieced strips together to make it. I did not use batting on the back but it is lined.
One of the nice things about this project is that it just covers a pillow I already had, so I can change up my decor without having to store more pillows.
This pillow cover with the alien abduction toile from Spoonflower is one of a pair I made for Cory for his new futon. I also made the tree from a small piece of Pendleton scrap wool as it was a bit too small for much else but too pretty to toss.
