My husband Cory has a background in construction engineering, working in software dealing with it for a living. I went to art school and am happy to be home painting each day. Our jobs really never overlapped until now. With COVID having so many working from home-my husband included, we spend a lot more time together. He no longer has a commute (he was walking to work as the commute was a 25 minute walk to the office) and with so many places still closed we spend a lot more time indoors than we had so it has given us the opportunity to work on projects long put off. One of these has been to collaborate on a series of artwork! Cory uses his scroll saw to cut out designs I draw on wood boards to make shaped windows that frame out pictures I paint on MDF. I paint the inner edges of the “window” and he then makes a frame to pull it all together, finishing it. In his frame making he starts with a 1”x2” board and uses a router to give it the beveled edge. He’s only just begun and is doing so great!
We have plans to continue this series as I have so many ideas I want to see actualized.
Black bear outline drawn by Anna, all painting by Anna (scene is a photo I took hiking in the Wallowa Mountains), all woodwork by Cory McDermott.
This outline was traced by Cory from a photo, the squirrel idea and the Pendleton wool used for the design were my (Anna’s) ideas as well as I painted the frame and the inside edge. Cory did all the woodwork.
First cut out project together! Woodwork by Cory, wildflower design painted by Anna from photos taken on our hikes, horse outline drawn by me also.
Outline and all painting by Anna, woodwork by Cory. Titled Aurora Bear, inspired by and for my friend Megan as she went on an Alaska trip and polar bears and the Northern Lights seemed a perfect fit.
Outline and all painting by Anna, wildflowers from photos from our hikes. Woodwork by Cory.
Outline and all painting by Anna, picture painted from a photo taken on our hike of Falls Creek Falls in Washington. All woodwork by Cory.
Galaxy bear inspired by and for my friend Emerald as she loves bears as I do and uses space themes in her jewelry making. Outline and all painting done by Anna, all woodwork by Cory.
