Christmas is almost here so I am closing out the year with some new art up at Lady Fern before I have to finish up some Christmas presents.
This is what I am calling a Forest Floor painting. I love all of the layers of life when you look down in the woods while walking along a trail.
This cut out is inspired by the red wolves of North Carolina. They are an endangered species native to that area and their numbers in the wild are extremely low. The trees in the painting are Bald Cypress which are also native and like the red wolves their numbers are also very limited- that is of their old growth trees. The place this painting is based on is Carver’s Creek State Park, NC- a former home of the Rockefellers. The wolves got on my radar after my first trip to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. It’s a great place to see red wolves and learn about the amazing conservation efforts to restore their population.
*This painting sold in the hour after we had left, but as always there is a link to shop my available work at the bottom of the page.
Another, miniature, Forest Floor painting. I have painted another mini painting off of the same reference photo I used for this earlier in the year. I really like the glossy effect these mushrooms had, so I enjoyed painting it.
