Every spring lilacs bloom and remind me of happy times picking them as a kid in Missouri. We had a huge lilac bush that was full of purple flowers and the scent filled our large yard. They are still my favorite flower so you can imagine how happy I was to discover Hulga Klager’s Lilac Garden in Woodland, WA and their Lilac Days where they have a sort of mini festival each spring!
At the festival you can walk the garden, buy a lilac bouquet from the local Boy Scouts, buy lilac plants in a bunch of different varieties, and shop their little lilac-themed gift shop. It’s a volunteer-run effort and I use that as my excuse to buy something when we go. This year I got a handmade lilac print apron. Years past I have gotten greeting cards, potholders, and 3 different lilac plants! Usually you can tour the historic home, this year of course being an exception.
My husband and I have gone the last several years (last year excluded as it was closed) and were happy to go again this year to enjoy a walk through the garden.
Lilac Days runs for around 3 weeks, ending on Mother’s Day in May. The garden is volunteer-maintained and costs a few bucks to enter, and about 5 dollars during the event.
The Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens are located at 115 S Pekin Rd, Woodland, WA 98674.
If you are in the area in mid April-Mother’s Day weekend in May you should definitely put a visit to the Hulda Klager Lilac Garden on your to-do list.
