We love our backyard and spend lots of time out there. When Fred Meyer had this swing on clearance for $99 we got it and used it nonstop. After having it for several years (the first few without a cover for the rainy months) it got kind of worn and raggedy. So, instead of a new swing, we fixed it up and made it better than new.
Our swing when we first got it.
Cory helped me with the sunshade - it’s just a hemmed rectangle that loops over a metal rod that fits into the supports on either end. With the leftover fabric I made a few throw pillows. The fabric is all indoor/outdoor fabric.
To make the covers for each cushion I first washed them on hot and dried them on hot. They were already pretty funky so heat wasn’t going to make them anything but cleaner. Then I measured how big around they were and accounted for a seam plus half an inch. I sewed them like extra long pillowcases so I can tuck the end inside and over the end of the cushion. I put the tucked-in side on the bottom so when you sit it can’t be seen and doesn’t want to slide. They fit really snug so they work well this way and now can be easily washed! Also, I put them in with what was the seat as the back cushion so as to have them more cushy and get more life out of them.
Tah-dah! All done and so cute! Extra thanks goes to my friend Cecilia as she gave me this fabric.
