Mt Tabor is an extinct volcano in Portland, OR that is a park, surrounded by neighborhoods. It has historic reservoirs, hiking trails, a dog park, kids’ playground, all in the middle of the city. You never quite know what you might see there- dance parties or wildlife. We saw a couple getting married on the top once and a coyote crossing the street at its base.. It’s cool to have a neighborhood volcano! (Especially an extinct one)
Portland pretty well shuts down when it snows, so Cory and I snowshoed to Mt Tabor, up to the top and back home one such day. It was beautiful and so fun to see people out enjoying the snow!
Mt Hood is just visible through the trees on a clear day.
St Helens can be seen on a clear day.
We often hear owls on Mt Tabor, but only rarely see them well enough to get a picture!
The top of Mt Tabor has pretty lights and good views of the city at night. I like taking a late hike up there once in a while.
