Cory and I have been watching Secrets of the Zoo on Disney so we were extra excited to go to the zoo from the show while in North Carolina visiting our family. The North Carolina Zoo does a lot for conservation- breeding endangered and extinct (in the wild) animals to try and get their numbers up for them to come back to the wild. They also help rehab bears! The zoo is huge and we didn’t manage to see it all in the four and a half hours we were there (it’s the largest natural habitat zoo in the world) but what we saw was great and it kept our 1 and 3/4 yr old niece entertained and tear-free the entire time!
The Arctic Foxes, or “fokk!!” as my niece would say..
We had literally just seen the polar bear walking around the habitat and went to get a better view when we see she had already laid down when we got to the window. Oh well!
She didn’t want to leave the bears!
There are so few red wolves left in the wild one source quoted that there were 8.. This zoo is working to try and raise their numbers!
This little frog is totally extinct in the wild.. (Panamanian Golden frog)
This Silverback Gorilla was really wanting to see our niece. He came over to her and then walked off when a couple of older ladies came up, while still keeping an eye on her. He was so curious! Then we went to another window and he came back up to her to say hi. So cute!
Cory’s favorite was the Aviary.
We rode on the open tram back to the Africa section to get to the parking lot.
