I might be a quilter in denial. My sister says that though I am a painter and my quilts are only a sometimes craft, and that I never make them from a pattern- that improv quilting is a thing and that it’s just a hobby of mine.. I guess I won’t argue. I made my 4th quilt as I bought material for a table runner, then accidentally found material I liked with it and it was way too much for a runner after that point.. So I have a painting themed throw quilt/blanket I made.. Or Painting in the Garden as I think that might be the title.. Do quilts need titles? So much I don’t know about this topic!
Anywho. I saw Tula Pink’s roses from her Alice in Wonderland collection (Curiouser and Curiouser) and had to have those paint dripping pieces of color wonder. Then I stumbled upon some bright color splotched material by Hoffmann that reminds me of my paint pallet.. Then yes, more Bali Batiks by Hoffmann (sensing a theme?).. Lastly I had to have the Hop To It rabbits by Tula Pink and with no plan added them to my stash..and they too made an appearance in my quilt.
I like to improvise my design as I go. This time I wanted to roughly keep bordering around the center square I made first.
I hand quilted some lines to keep everything tacked down so I could bind it before I was finished. We were going on a road trip and I wanted to be able to finish it while I was at my parents’ house. It worked well this way!
Backing is some flannel I found at JoAnn. Cory and I matched it up pretty well! I like glueing it with glue sticks to keep it in place better than pins.
Tah-dah!
It goes fabulously well with the throw pillow covers I made! I just had to have these adorable rabbits around!
