I am in full on project mode right now, with nothing finished to share but a lot of half finished things going on. Being a full-time artist (for me) is making the art, working on the website, posting to share the work so people see it (hopefully leading to some sales- while never wanting to be sales-y ), keeping up with inventory for shops, blogging, and sometimes in my spare time crafting and hiking to get some exercise.
I sell art- original paintings and prints- in my webstore and in a shop called Lady Fern in Parkdale, OR near Mt Hood. I’m in the midst of finishing up a big restock along with working on paintings for my new webstore, so the pics below are some of the paintings for the restock. The painting portion is done on the ones pictured, but the woodwork is currently in progress. My husband cuts out the shaped frames on his scrollsaw, uses a router for the edges, sands them, stains them, makes mitered frames for the rectangular edged frames, etc. Some of the upcoming, unpictured shapes will be a raven, a horse, and a wolf! With seeing ravens in the area, especially hiking around Mt Hood and having seen a wolf there once, we wanted to include those in our frame offerings.
This is the quilt I shared that I was starting back in May. It was on pause for a bit as I over thought how to do parts of it- I really wanted the color blocks spaced out in a way I was going to be happy with and after putting it off for a while, I ended up sticking with the pattern I’d decided on over a month ago. I always have enough art going on that putting my crafting projects on hold is no big deal. It does feel good to have made this much progress though! It’s a little over half way done on the quilting portion.
While working on my quilt I needed more basting spray so went to Pioneer Quilts in Milwaukee, OR. If you live in the Portland area, they are a fantastic shop for quilters and people who sew. They have a huge Halloween and Christmas section, so I bought some Halloween material to make a quilted throw. The shop is in a historic home with beautiful landscaping, so a trip there is a little extra fun.
